What is a force ?
A fore is anything which causes an object to change its velocity
What is velocity ?
It is the speed in a given direction
What are forces measured in ?
It is measured in newtons
What does push forces do
It changes the velocity of an object
What does pull forces do
It changes the velocity of an object
What does weight forces do
It movies objects towards the ground
What does Friction forces do
It slows down moving objects
What does electric forces do
It causes charged particles to move
What does magnetic forces do
Causes magnetic materials to move

What is friction
This is the force that prevents easy movement between two objects in contact
Name types of high friction
Sand paper, car tyres, rough soled shoes
Name types of low friction
Wet soap, ice and glass
What are the advantages of friction
Helps you stop
Brakes on your car
Removes rough surfaces
helps you walk stops slipping
Tyres wont spin while driving
Keeps you upright while walking
Tyres don’t skid while driving
When cold friction provides heat
Hitting flint and steel you can make a spark to light a fire
Extra grips on shoes stops slipping on ice
It keeps nails in wood and stops them from falling out
Disadvantages of friction
New shoes, braces cause blisters due to skin being rubbed
Wear down new shoes
Carpet burns
More fuel is wasted in a car due to the air and the car
Cartilage wears away the joints= can be painful
