Q

What must the aircraft do in a banked turned to remain at the same level?

A

Weight is constant but lift is lost due to the effective reduction in wing span. therefore the AoA must be increased.

6
Q

What produces a maximum glide range?

A

Flying the aicraft at its optimal angle of attack as well as its minimum drag speed Vmd

7
Q

What is the effect of weight on glide range?

A

Glide range doesn’t change with weight provided the aircraft is flown at optimal AoA and speed for that weight. It would however be faster to reach the distance with a heavier aircraft

9
Q

What is rate of climb/decsent?

A

This is the vertical component of the velocity of the aircraft. Determines the time it will take to either climb/descend from a given height.

Q

What is the effect of weight on rate of descent?

A

Heavier the aircraft, greater the rate of descent. A heavier aircraft will fly at a higher airspeed for a given AoA

Q

What is an aerofoil?

A

An aerofoil is a body that gives a large lift compared with its drag when set at a small angle to a moving airstream.

16
Q

What is the angle of attack?

A

Angle of attack is the angle between the chord line of an aerofoil and the relative airfow.

17
Q

What is a washout on a wing?

A

Washout is a decrease in the angle of incidence from the wing root to the wing tip. COmpensates for early stall due to higher loading t the wing tips

18
Q

What is dihedral?

A

Upward inclination of the wing form the root to the tip

19
Q

What is anhedral?

A

downward inclination of the wing form the root to the tip
