Why did people believe that immigration would help with white Australia
People believed that immigration would enable the development and maintenance of “white Australia”
Why was wanting federation good for defence?
It would help AUS defend all the other countries that were going to have war with AUS like China and Japan but AUS could not defend we did not have enough soldiers in the colonies to adequately defend themselves
Federation would help with people’s money finances because?
Free traders were among the most vocal supporters of the federation, arguing that it would strengthen the economy by abolishing tariffs and creating a single market
(Meaning of tariffs is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of import or exports: “the reduction of trade barriers and import tariffs”)
For National pride & identity federation
Colonists mostly shared a common language, culture and heritage and increasingly began to identify as Australian rather than British. 1899 soldiers from the colonies who went to war together as Australians was apparent in contemporary songs and poems witch celebrated Australia as Australians
For Transportation
There was no standard railway gauge across the country and railway lines changed at the colonial borders. This was through a lack of communication during the planning phase of designing and building the railway lines and caused a great deal of inconvenience at each border. People and goods had to change trains at the border which wasted time and money for all involved.
For Laws
Laws could’ve been better enforced across states because every state had different law and lets say you live in NSW, and you go to QLD there are different laws, and you could break a law in QLD that you didn’t know about cause it’s not a law in NSW and it’s easier to just everyone have the same laws.
For Womans suffrage
Suffrage refers to a persons right to vote in political election. Woman suffrage refers the right of women to vote in an election.
