How do you carry out a sugar test?
Add 2ml of food solution to a test tube. Add 2ml of Benedict’s solution and place in a water bath.
How do you carry out a lipid/fat test?
Add 2ml of food solution and 5 drops of ethanol. Shake. Add half a test tube of water.
How do you carry out a starch test?
Add 2 drops of food solution and 2 drops of iodine into a spotting tile.
How do you carry out a protein test?
Add 2ml of food solution and 2ml of biuret.
How do you know a sugar test is positive?
It will turn from blue to red.
How do you know a lipid/fat test is positive?
A cloudy white emulsion will form.
How do you know a starch test is positive?
It will turn from orange to black.
