Design Cycle
The process of designing a product from start to finish.
Situation
An explanation of the design problem from the user’s perspective
Design Brief
A couple of sentences explaining what you are going to design and make
Research
Different methods used to collect information about the user, situation, materials that would help develop designs to solve the problem
Specification
A list of points that the product should fulfil
Planning
A process which involves setting out everything you will need in order to complete a task
Time plan
A chart outlining every step needed to complete a task
Shortening
Coating flour with fat to prevent water developing gluten too quickly in a mixture e.g pastry
Rubbing in
A cooking method to coat the flour particles in fat
Lard
White Animal fat used in cooking i.e for making pastry
Design ideas
A range of alternative ideas that could fulfil the design specification, annotated to explain the materials, size and how it would work
User
The person who will need to review and use the product
Evaluation
The ability to test, check and discuss whether the finished product fulfils the specification
