How is food security affected during calamity ?
/ Due to a calamity like droughts production of food decreases
/ This creates a shortage in food which increases the prices
/ If a calamity were to go on for a long time it will result in a state of starvation
What are famines ?
/ A famine is a widespread scarcity of food, caused by war, natural disasters, crop failure etc.
/ A famine is characterised by wide spread deaths due to starvation and epidemics
/ These are caused by contaminated water and food

The worst affected groups from food insecurity are landless people, traditional artists and beggars
Give a note on food insecurity for urban areas
Those food insecure here are those who are working members in ill paid jobs and laborer’s who are employed in seasonal jobs and paid very low.

The scheduled castes and scheduled tribes usually have poor land or low land productivity are proven to be food insecure.
