What are the rules on food in Christianity?
There are no strict rules about food in Christianity
During Lent, Christians often choose to give up certain foods or drinks
During various Christian celebrations, special foods are eaten like hot cross buns and pancakes
What are the rules on food in Islam?
The Quran states that meats eaten by Muslims must be halal-where the lawful animal is slaughtered in a specific way whilst being blessed
Muslims cannot eat pork nor any product made from pork products such as gelatine. Muslims are also not allowed to drink alcohol
During Ramadan, Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset
What are the rules on food in Hinduism?
Many Hindus are vegetarian, but some tend to avoid certain vegetables that are considered harmful such as garlic, onion and mushrooms
The Hindus that eat meat require that it be slaughtered using a quick painful method called jhatka. In Hinduism cows are considered sacred, so Hindus are not allowed to eat beef
What are the rules on food in Judaism?
Jewish dietary laws (kashrut) state their food must be kosher (means fit for consumption)
Kosher animals are ones which have split hooves and chew cud (such as cows and deer), plus fish that have fins and scales (no shellfish).
These animals animals must be slaughtered using quick, painless methods that allow the blood to drain afterwards as blood is considered non-kosher
Pig, rabbit, hare and camel are not allowed
Dairy and meats must not be cooked together or eaten together

Baptised Sikhs are prohibited from eating meat which is ritually slaughtered (such as halal or kosher) meat
Many sikhs are vegetarian
Sikhism teaches that its followers should only eat what they need to and shouldn’t over indulge

Buddhists believe that all living beings are sacred so the majority of Buddhists are vegetarian or vegan (although there are no strict rules on this)
Most Buddhist avoid alcohol, as they believe it wrongly alters your view of the world around you
Some Buddhists choose to fast from noon until sunrise the following day
What are the rules on food in Rastafarianism?
Eating pork is forbidden in Rastafarianism
Many Rastafarians stick to an I-tal (clean and natural) diet, meaning the diets are mainly made up of fresh vegetables. Some eat fish, but the fish must be less than 30cm long
Many Rastafarians do not drink alcohol but will drink things made from natural, grown products such as herbal tea or juice

Foods are tasted and the taster put the foods in order from lowest to highest for a certain charcateristic

A food is tasted and the testers rate characteristics of the food using a scale
