Food Chains Flashcards
What is a food chain?
A FOOD CHAIN is a diagram showing the transfer of energy from one organism to another in an ecosystem (can I transfer to another planet)
Each organism in a food chain is called a ____
link (clinkity bink, pinkitty drinkitty)
What symbol means is eaten by in a food chain?
I cannot see it on slides but I am 75% sure it is an arrow
The first link in a food chain is called a ________
producer (be like them and be productive wink)
a primary consumer is
an animal which feeds on a producer (imagine the producer is u and a plant and the primary consumer is ur phone and a bunny. The bunny feeds on the plant like a phone feeds on ur productivity k)
a secondary consumer is
an animal which feeds on a primary consumer
each feeding level in a food chain is called a _______ _____
trophic level
trophic levels in order
Producer 🡪 primary consumer 🡪 secondary consumer 🡪 tertiary consumer 🡪 quarternary consumer (I copied and pasted and found out they are arrows)
The arrows show the direction of flow of energy which is passed on via ________
feeding (dang I’m hungry)
Maximum number of links food chains usually have
5 links (due to loss of energy by then I believe)
what is a food web
A FOOD WEB is a diagram showing a network of many interconnected food chains
How many food sources do most consumers have (one or multiple)
Most consumers have more than one source of food in an ecosystem. This
means that several food chains may have common organisms.
Example: A bird may eat both worms and mangoes. Therefore the bird will be common
to both food chains as follows: Grass 🡪 grasshopper 🡪 bird OR Mangoes 🡪 bird
The stability of an ecosystem depends on…
the well being of ALL the organisms in that ecosystem (proves why the human race is what it is)
If one organism is removed (goes bye bye extinct) from a food web, what does it affect?
it affects many other organisms in that web and by extension, the ecosystem.
Some human activities which can have negative impacts on an ecosystem
pollution, deforestation, the introduction of foreign species and overhunting.
