What is The Biuret test used for?
Proteins
What are the steps? [ Biuret ]
- Prepare the food sample solution in a test tube.
- Add one drop of Biuret solution into the food sample.

- Add equal volume of Benedict solution into the test tube.
- Place the test tube in a hot water bath for a few minutes.
- Take out the test tube when the colour stopped changing.
Can Benedicts solution detect sucrose?
Benedict solution can only
detect glucose.
What are the colours? [Benedicts]
• If glucose is present: - Colour changes from blue to: ▪ greenish-yellow (low glucose level) / ▪ orange (moderate glucose level) / ▪ brick-red (high glucose level) • If glucose is absent: - Colour remains blue
