Q

1000 Foot configuration gate

A

The flight crew shall plan and fly their approach in such a manner that the following parameters should be met by 1000 feet AAE:

  1. The aircraft should be fully configured for landing (gear, flaps and
speedbrakes/spoilers) with the Landing Check completed.
  2. If the flight fails to meet this requirement at the 1000 foot gate, the PM shall call the condition(s) and repeat the call at regular intervals until the condition is corrected or a go-around is initiated.

Q

500 Foot stable gate

A

The flight crew shall plan and fly their approach in such a manner that the following
parameters should be met by 500 feet AAE:
1. The aircraft meets the Stable Approach Tolerances in accordance with the AOM*; and
2. If the flight fails to meet these requirements at the 500 foot gate, the PM shall call
the parameter and repeat the calls at regular intervals until the condition is corrected

  • Airspeed: stabilized on target within +10/-5 knots
Thrust: stabilized to maintain the target airspeed, usually above flight idle
Rate of Descent: stabilized, not more than 1,000 fpm
    or a go-around is initiated.
  • PM calls “STABLE” if requirements are met

Q

W.I.R.E. (PA en cas d’urgence)

A

W : What’s wrong (ex: we had a problem with our engine and had to shut it down)
I : Impact to passengers (ex: we will not be going to our destination)
R : Reassurance (ex: we are following the safest course of action)
E : Exit plan (ex: turning back towards point of departure, or going to alternate, etc.)

  • Écris le PA sur une feuille avant de prendre la parole
  • Le moins de détails techniques possible
  • Less is more (garde ça simple, pas trop de mots ou explications compliquées)
  • Ne pas utiliser le mot «aparentemente»

Q

Crew Incapacitation

A

If flight crew member incapacitation is recognized, and if appropriate for the phase of flight, the
following actions shall be taken:

i. A non-incapacitated flight crew member shall assume control of the aircraft and ensure a
safe flight profile is maintained; and
ii. The autopilot shall be engaged; and
iii. The non-incapacitated flight crew member shall request the flight attendants (or a flight
deck jumpseat occupant) to assist. If a PA announcement is required to alert the cabin
crew, the Urgent Communication Procedure shall be employed; and

iv. The first priority of the non-incapacitated operating flight crew member is to maintain the
safe operation of the aircraft. When the aircraft is established at a safe altitude, in a safe
configuration, the non-incapacitated flight crew member, with assistance, should:
• Tilt the incapacitated flight crew member’s seat back; and
• Move the seat full aft and move the rudder pedals full forward; and
• Move the incapacitated flight crew member’s head back; and
• Use the incapacitated flight crew member’s shoulder harness as a restraint; and
• When practicable, remove the incapacitated flight crew member from the seat and
replace, if possible, with another flight crew member.
