Q

follower and climbing my grandfather comparison

A

both ‘follower’ and ‘climbing my grandfather’ feature the themes of familial love through their relationships with their loved ones, displaying both feelings of admiration and a sense of reflection as they both look back at their childhood memories. In the case of Follower, Heaney reflects on his childhood, remembering how use to follow his father as he ploughed the fields but now as he has grown older, the roles have reversed and the once hero-like image that he had of his father slowly fades. However in climbing my grandfather, Waterhouse feels a sense of respect and desire to know his grandfather and ‘explores’ their relationship through imagining him as a mountain

Q

follower and eden rock comparison

A

Both Follower and Eden rock feature the themes of familial love through parent-child relationships, both poets expressing deep admiration and a sense of reflection as they reflect on not only the bond they have with their parents but the lasting impression it has left on their lives. In the case of follower, Heaney reflects on childhood, reminiscent of how he spent his days following his father as he ploughed the fields but now as he has grown older and wiser, the roles have reversed and the once father he had idolised throughout his youth is no longer the ‘hero’ he had admired as he creates the melody of a childhood picnic in ‘Eden Rock’ but within this lovely memory he looks ahead to be reunited with his deceased parents and death
