SEIZURE OF PROPERTY INV.2 0 3 0 . 1 0 7
The cadet will state an officer’s legal authority to confiscate property with illegible or destroyed serial numbers for investigation of theft.
♦ Law enforcement is permitted to lawfully seize and forfeit contraband and the
instrumentalities and proceeds of criminal conduct and to ensure control and
accountability over the use and sale of forfeited property (UCA 24-1-2)
RECOVERY OF SERIAL NUMBER INV.2 0 3 0 . 1 0 8
The cadet will recall it may be possible to re-establish or “raise” a serial number
which has been altered or destroyed, for purposes of identification.

recovered goods including:

The cadet will list common indicators exhibited by wanted persons which could alert
the officer, to include:

♦ The inability of the subject to remember personal information related to the
individual
♦ The inability of the subject to remember personal information related to the individual

- Other statements

The cadet will list issues which should be discussed with the prosecutor prior to obtaining a warrant, to include:

The cadet will indicate the requirements for, and importance of, photograph line-ups for use in a court of law.
♦ A suspect has the right to have his attorney present at any lineup before or
after an arrest (UCA 77-8-2)
♦ A peace officer conducting a lineup shall not attempt to influence the
identification of any particular suspect (UCA 77-8-3)

between the witnesses and the conducting peace officers. The suspect shall
have access to and may make copies of the record and any photographs taken
