Q

What is a fold?

A

A fold forms when pressure is exerted inwards from both sides
It occurs when the earth is pliable

Q

What are fold mountains?

A

At a convergent boundary involving acontinental plateand anoceanic plate
As the plates push together, the continental crust is squashed together and forced upwards
Fold mountains can also be formed where two continental plates push towards each other

Q

What is a fault?

A

A fault occurs when there is movement along a crack
When the movement along a fault is sideways it is called a slip fault
Faults form in rocks when the stresses overcome the internal strength of the rock resulting in a fracture
A fault can be defined as the displacement of once connected blocks of rock along a fault plane
This can occur in any direction with the blocks moving away from each other
