Foetal development Flashcards
What happens to the respiratory system at 26 days?
lower respiratory system begins to develop until separation from the foregint is achieved
What happens at 5 weeks?
lung buds begin to differentiate into bronchi
What happens at 7-10 weeks?
Development of the larynx
What happens at 5-16 weeks
Airway branches are formed
What happens at 13-25 weeks?
canalicular period
Bronchi enlarge and lung tissues become highly vascular (vessels that carry fluid)
What happens at 26-28 weeks? (if premature chance of survival is a but higher at this point)
Lungs are capable of gas exchange
Type 2 alveolar cells secrete surfactant
What happens at week 24 to birth?
Capillary network proliferates around the alveoli
8-10% of cardiac output flows through the lungs
