FMS Flashcards
● A typical FMS consists of:
o Navigation Computer (Position)
o Air Data Computer (Performance)
o Flight Management Computer
o Control Display Unit
o Visual Display (EFIS)
Air Data (Performance) Computer
● This computer will take care of the performance related information for the pilot.
● Prior to takeoff, the pilot will typically enter information such as temperature, winds, weights, fuel loads, and the planned cruising altitude.
● From this, V-Speeds can be calculated, as well as cruising speeds and takeoff distances.
● Targets for speeds and power settings for cruise can also be computed.
Flight Management Computer
● The Flight Management Computer serves as the “brains” of the system, or the integrator of the two computers.
● It also contains the following information:
o Aircraft Performance Manual
o Navigation Data
o Charts
o Terrain Data
