fMRI Flashcards
What is fMRI not good at doing/giving??
Unambiguous answers
Firing rates
Receptor localisation
Is one area ‘more active’ than another
Anything that doesn’t produce a blood flow response
Inhibitory/exhibitory activity
What causes a darker contrast in an MRI image?
shorter T2*
What can cause a shorter T2*?
Metals/dental implants etc
What causes the overshoot and undershoot in the haemodynamic response
The delay in the blood vessels expanding and then them returning to normal
What factors affect the BOLD signal in fMRI?
Physiology - CBV/CBF, metabolic oxy consumption
Equipment - field strength and homogeneity
Pulse sequence - gradient vs spin echo, echo time, repeat time, flip angle, resolution
What kind of ‘noise’ can affect the bold signal
Breathing (holding breath or increased), blood pressure, head motion, cardiac cycle, caffiene
How can neurovascular coupling be disrupted?
Drugs - vasoactive drugs
Alzheimers
