Generally speaking, oboe students take too much reed into the mouth and exert excessive jaw pressure. What issue does this present? (3)
This will produce a general sharp pitch, a very poor tone quality and this will make it harder to adjust the pitch
What are the characteristics of a well-formed oboe embouchure? (4)
The jaws should be separated, the tongue will be low in the mouth, the corners of the mouth are firm and forward, and the chin should be down and firm
The bassoon player is in general playing sharp. What are the possible causes for this? (3)
The reed is too hard, the bocal is too short and/or there is extra tension in the shoulders
The bassoon player in is general playing flat. What are the possible causes of this problem? (3)
The reed is not hard enough, the bocal is too long, and/or the embouchure is too relaxed
