High concentration of Cl- leads to H+ ions coming out of the cell to maintain neutrality

Equilibrates with all fluid compartments including the ICF

Contains large molecules (and 0.9% NaCl) which act to draw water into the plasma from the interstitial fluid (no evidence that they are better than simple saline)
