Fluids Flashcards
What’s pressure?
Distribution of force over an area (P=F/A)
What’s hydrostatic pressure?
Pressure caused by the weight of fluid above an area
Hydrostatic pressure is determined by
Depth and density I.e. P= pgz
P is density of fluid
g is acceleration due to gravity
z is depth in the fluid
What’s byoyant force?
Net upward force in fluid that results from greater pressure on the bottom than top of an object
Archimedes principle?
Buoyant force on an object is equal to the weight of the fluid the object displaces
What’s pascals law?
A pressure applied to an incompressible fluid causes the same pressare increase throughout the fluid
What is ideal gas?
Ideal gas = no volume = No intermolecular forces
What does the boyle’s law imply?
Decreasing the volume of gas will increase the pressure of the gas by same factor
Ideal gas law equation?
PV =nRT
