Q

Shear stress and Pressure are both Force per unit Area, so what is the difference between them?

A

Pressure acts perpendicular to the surface, AKA is normal stress, while shear stress acts parallel to the surface, AKA is a tangential stress.

Q

What is Newton’s Law of Viscocity?

A

The shear stress between two layers of a fluid is directly proportional to the velocity gradient between those layers. A fluids viscosity is directly related to how quickly the layers slide past each other

Q

What is the difference between kinematic viscosity, viscosity, absolute viscosity, and dynamic viscosity?

A

Kinematic viscosity is represented by nu, and is the viscosity AKA dynamic AKA absolute viscosity divided by density. It’s units are m^2/s, and there is no force involved.
