Fluid Lines and Fittings Flashcards
What are the two types of commonly used fluid lines in aircraft plumbing?
Metal tubing and flexible hose and fittings
how is metal tubing sized?
By outside diameter and wall thickness and in 16th of an inch
what material should be selected for high-pressure rigid fluid lines?
Annealed or 1/4 hard corrosion resistant steel
what percentage of flattening is allowed when bending metal tubing?
25% max (must maintain 75% of the original tube diameter)
What type of material should fittings be made of when used with stainless steel tubing?
Stainless steel
What precautions should be taken when routing fluid lines adjacent to electrical wiring?
Route the fluid lines below the electrical wiring and maintain a clearance of at least six inches whenever possible.
What is the purpose of the identification stripe running along the length of a flexible hose?
Lay line indicates if the hose has twisted
what are standard AN type and AC type fluid line fittings identified?
AN fittings have a small shoulder and and 37° flare cone are colored black or blue
AC fittings are gray or yellow have a 35° flare cone
completely threaded all the way through
What are some synthetic materials commonly used to manufacture flexible hoses?
Buna-N
Butyl
Ethylene
Propylene diene rubber Neoprene
Teflon
What is the purpose of using quick disconnect couplings in fluid systems?
Provide a means of quickly disconnecting line without loss of fluid or air entering the system also prevents contamination.
How is flex line sized?
Internal diameter
How is flex line sized?
Internal diameter and 16th of an inch
how often should flexible hose be clamped?
every 24 inches
