Q
What do the terms incidence and prevalence mean? Describe.
A
- Incidence is the rate of occurrence of a disorder or disease in a specified group of people. Incidence studies start with a normal healthy group of people, and repeatedly observes them over a period of time- longitudinal studies.
- Prevalence is the number of individuals who currently have the disorder. It is a head count at any given point in time. Cross sectional studies are used to measure prevalence. Prevalence does not make a predictive statement.
