Flow In Pipes Flashcards
What is Couette flow?
Couette flow is flow formed when one plate moves parallel to another, with fluid in between. The pressure gradient is zero, so the fluid forms a constant velocity gradient, from 0 to Vplate.
What is Poiseuille flow?
Poiseuille flow is flow between two stationary plates caused by a pressure gradient. Is has a parabolic form, vx = -((1/2[mu])(dp/dx)) x (H2/4 - y2)
How is the loss coefficient K used to find pressure loss across an inlet?
Pressure loss = 1/2 [density]V2K
How is pressure change over a pump found?
Pressure increase = W/Q where Q is volumetric flow rate
What is the general form for determining pressure drop across a feature of a pipe?
Pressure drop = 1/2 [density]V2K where K is the loss coefficient.
