Flow In Pipes Flashcards

Q

What is Couette flow?

A

Couette flow is flow formed when one plate moves parallel to another, with fluid in between. The pressure gradient is zero, so the fluid forms a constant velocity gradient, from 0 to Vplate.

Q

What is Poiseuille flow?

A

Poiseuille flow is flow between two stationary plates caused by a pressure gradient. Is has a parabolic form, vx = -((1/2[mu])(dp/dx)) x (H2/4 - y2)
