Flow Cytometry Flashcards
1
Q
What is Flow Cytometry ?
A
a powerful tool for interrogating the phenotype and characteristics of cells
• is based upon the light-scattering properties of the cells being analyzed and these include
fluorescence emissions
• Measuring the properties of cells when they are flowing in a fluid suspension along an
illuminated light path
2
Q
Why flow cytometry?
A
Fast
Single cell analysis
Relatively quantitative
Relatively easy sample preparation
Simultaneous analysis of multiple
parameters.
High throughput analysis possible
3
Q
Flow cytometry can be split into 2 main categories
A
Cell analysis
Cell sorting
