It is always important to minimize noise because proper rest for the patient can improve his/ her condition.
Noise
- Nurse will have to attempt variety in the room
- Make sure there are cards, flowers, pictures,
and books available in the room - Encourage friends and family to engage in
stimulating activity.
Variety
- The nurse will have to check the diet of the patient
- Record the intake of food and fluid in the flowsheet
Food Intake
A nurse must be knowledgeable on what his/her patient can intake based on the patient’s religion.
Food
A nurse responsibility is to check the dampness, wrinkles, and soiling (dirty linens) of the bed.
Bed must be wrinkle free because the elderly patients have thin skin integrity and the wrinkles would cause wound to the elderly.
Bed and Bedding
Expose the patient to sunlight and always make sure the timing is right.
Light
- Check the room for dust, damp, and dirt
- Room must be clean before a new patient will
come in.
Cleanliness in Rooms and Walls
- The patient must be clean and dry at all times
- Frequently assess the patient’s skin
- Do bed bath to elderly patients, newborns,
patients in comatose status, and paralytic
patients
Personal Cleanliness
- Talk to the patients but be careful when giving advice. Always make sure to be supported by facts.
- Avoid personal talks
