This was because there was a lot of precipitation on the wet ground and it created a flood.
Why would an affect be loss of money from the flood?
This is because the businesses would be destroyed because the buildings and homes were also destroyed. Also the council had to pay money to repair a lot of homes and buildings.

They would be under pressure because many people got hurt and lives were lost. Also people had relied on them to help a lot of injured people.
What is a short term and long term affect?
A short term affect is when it can only be affected for a short time and a long term affect is when it can last and still affect people in the future.
Why were businesses damaged?
Many businesses were damaged because a lot of money was lost and their working places were destroyed which means that no money could be made.

This is because North India is LEDC and more homes would get destroyed from the material that they use. Also 5,748 people had died. This means that this flood was more powerful although the Cockermouth flood and the North India flood were similar.

The cause of this flood was because of heavy rainfall and the debris had been blocking the river and made the water overflow. This made the dams upstream create the over flow of the water.

The long term affects would be the loss of food. Also as the hotels were destroyed less tourists would come because there would be no where to stay. As businesses were destroyed less money would be made in the future.
How could the next flood not be as powerful?
They could use flood defences and build houses with stronger materials and use wash lands or embankments.
