A
The river can hold more water as the banks are higher

A
Digging out sediment making the river deeper so it can hold more water

What is floodplain zoning
A
Involves planning what is built on the floodplain and what is built further away- the floodplain would be used for sports pitches or farming while hospitals would be built higher up, away from the river. Farmers allow their fields to be flooded so the water doesn’t cause flooding in the town

Planting trees which will intercept rainfall and absorb water from the ground
