Float Collars Flashcards
Breakout Presentation Review
Name Features of the Super Seal II Float Collar with
Sealing Sleave
- Must have a stab-in float shoe or collar in the casing string
- Drillpipe must have sealing adapter
- Float collar must have a sealing sleeve
- Two centralizers need to be used on the drill string
- One centralizer placed right above the sealing adapter, second centralizer needs to be placed one joint above the first centralizer
What prevents cement from flowing back into the drill string
A one way check valve in the floating equipment prevents cement from re-entering the casing and drill string
Name Features of the Super Seall II Float Collar With Sealing Sleave and Latchdown Seat
- Has a sealing sleave adaptor on work string
- Sealing sleeve with latchdown seat on float collar
- Super Seal II float collar
Super Seal II float equipment valve - Latch Down Plug
What two purposes does the latch down plug serve
- Wipes the innerstring ID of cement
- Serves as a backup to any backpressure valves located in the casing string below
Name Features of Standard Super Seal II Float Collar
- Flat face seal that seals on any float equipment containing a flat surface of concrete
- Sealing Adapter
- Super Seal II Float Collar
- Super Seal II Valve
What Are Inner-String Recommendations and Availability
- Install centralizers immediately above adapter and at top of the first joint of the workstring. Centralizers help align float equipment
- Use 5,000lbs of force to create seal when using Method 3
- Cement can be reversed from inside the casing as long as circulation pressure does not exceed the hydrostatic pressure outside the casing show joint.
What happens if circulation pressure is greater than the pressure outside the casing
Float valve can open and cause cement contamination around the shoe joint. A latch down plug can prevent this from happening because it can handle pressure from both directions
