Illustration: gift

A

If a friend gives you a gift there is no cost or payment. If they pay for the gift it is no longer a gift. God has given us eternal life as a gift, not something we earn with our good works, but through our faith in His work.

Faith is like exhibiting trust. Take for example chair. You look at the chair and acknowledge it exists and can hold you if you sit on it. This is not faith. Faith is actually sitting in the chair and trusting it to hold you.

25

Illustration: Life Preserver

A

If you are swimming in the vast and dangerous ocean and struggling to get to get to land and a boat comes by, sees you and throws you a life preserver, what good is it if you do not accept the life preserver thrown to you?

Jesus says to each person, and to you today,

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

Do you want to trust in the work of Jesus Christ as God’s gift of forgiveness for sins and eternal life in heaven?

Q

Prayer

A

Lord Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself.
I believe you are the Son of God who died for my sins and rose from the dead and we too can be raised to life again.
By faith, I gratefully receive your gift of salvation and eternal life.

Lord Jesus, help me turn from my sinful thoughts and actions, and instead commit to honoring and obeying you. Come into my heart as I submit my life to you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
