flight or fight response essay questions Flashcards
outline the role of adrenaline in fight or flight response (4 MARKS)
adrenaline is released from the adrenal medulla in response to activation of the SAM pathway. it has a range of effects on the body such as, increase heart and breathing rate, increase sweat, increases blood flow to the brain. it prepares the body for the fight or flight action, and also increases oxygen to muscles for physical action and increases oxygen to the brain for rapid response planning
explain the actions of the ANS (4 MARKS)
the body becomes aware of a stressor and the hypothalamus triggers an increase in levels in the sympathetic branch in the ANS. adrenaline is released from the adrenal medulla, which triggers and creates the physiological response needed to sustain fight or flight. once the stressor is no longer a threat, our parasympathetic branch of the ANS is activated in order to return our body to its resting state
