Runaway Hoist
- Advise pilot
- Going to back up control - push to on
If runaway continues - Set back up pump - off
- Abort hoist and make on scene repairs, abort the mission or take other actions as appropriate
Fouled cable
- Immediately pay out cable
- Advise pilot
If injury or damage is imminent: - “SHEAR SHEAR SHEAR”
- Emer rel- press (P,CP)
- Hoist SHEAR-SHEAR(FM)
If injury or damage is not imminent - Maintain position
- Attempt to have flight mechanic and boat personnel free cable or rescue device.
If unable to free device from deck: - Cut cable with cable cutters
- Abort mission or rig quick splice and continue hoist
ICS Failure
- Perform ICS Check : visually inspect hoist pendant ICS switch and visually Inspect chord. If in a safe position to do so, retrieve device.
- Perform ICS Check : check PTT and chord
- Slowly move aircraft to establish visual reference with hoisting area
- Pay out slack as necessary.
- Troubleshoot ICS malfunction
If ICS malfunction has been corrected, proceed with normal hoist procedures.
If ICS malfunction has not been corrected - Position aircraft to recover rescue device as per rescue briefing.
- Signal pilot to reestablish visual reference with hoisting area by pointing to the left side of the aircraft. Rescue device may or may not have been recovered.
- Observe signal, pass to pilot
- Slowly move aircraft to establish visual reference with hoisting area.
If rescue device has been recovered - Complete hoist of rescue device
If rescue device has not been recovered - Make on scene repairs, abort mission, or take other actions as appropriate.
