A
  1. Altitude at 2500 AGL (no lower than 1500 AGL)
  2. Clearing turns
  3. Power to 1500
  4. Apply back pressure to maintain altitude
  5. Remember right rudder
  6. Lower flaps
  7. At 50 knots, increase power and trim
  8. Perform maneuvers as requested

What are the steps to take to enter a power off stall?

This simulates landing

A
  1. Altitude at 2500 AGL (no lower than 1500 AGL)
  2. Clearing turns
  3. Power to idle
  4. Apply back pressure to maintain altitude
  5. Remember right rudder
  6. Lower flaps
  7. Apply back pressure until plane stalls
  8. Release back pressure
  9. Level the wings
  10. Full power
  11. Climb at VY
  12. Raise flaps

What are the steps to take to enter a power on stall?

This simulates taking off

A
  1. Altitude at 2500 AGL (no lower than 1500 AGL)
  2. Clearing turns
  3. Power to 1500
  4. Apply back pressure to maintain altitude
  5. Slow to 55 knots
  6. Apply full power
  7. Apply back pressure to induce stall
  8. At stall, reduce back pressure lowering cowling to horizon
  9. Do not lower nose excessively!
  10. Establish a climb

What are the steps to take to perform an emergency landing?

A

A – Airspeed (Best Glide Speed)
L – Landing Spot
A – Air-Restart
R – Radios
M – “Mayday”
S – Secure Aircraft

  1. Aviate!
    a. Establish 68 knot glide and trim
  2. Navigate
    a. Find a place to set down and turn toward it.
    b. Aim for a spot 1000’ above your desired landing location
  3. Try to restart
    a. Seven-Up procedure
    i. Carb Heat or Alt. Air ON
    ii. Fuel selector to Both
    iii. Mixture full rich
    iv. Throttle full in
    v. Fuel pump on
    vi. Ignition to BOTH or Start if prop not spinning
    vii. Master set to ON
    b. If nothing, reverse procedure
    c. Add flaps
  4. Communicate
    a. Radio to 121.5 by pressing and holding button
    b. Report the following:
    i. Mayday Mayday Mayday
    ii. Aircraft ID
    iii. Position
    iv. Souls
    v. Nature of the problem
    vi. Proposed landing site or intentions
    vii. Squawk 7700
    viii. Shut down radio
    ix. Communicate with passengers
  5. Land the plane

  1. Abeam the numbers
    a. Power to 1500 RPM
    b. Flaps to 10
    c. Pitch for 75 knots
  2. Turn base
    a. Flaps to 20
  3. Turn final
    a. Flaps to full
    b. Pitch for 65 knots
  4. Adjust power as needed
  5. When runway is made…
    a. Power to idle
    b. Eyes to end
    c. Hold off as long as possible

What are the procedures to follow if you are lost?

7 Cs

  1. Maintain Control
  2. Circle over present position
  3. Climb to higher altitude if possible
  4. Use the Sectional Chart to locate any landmarks
  5. Cross reference any navigation aids
  6. Confess to ATC if need be (121.5 for emergency)
  7. Comply with instructions
