What is an ABRIEF check and what does it stand for?

A

Check done before arriving at an aerodrome and are often completed in conjunction with a TCTWO.

ATIS - copied
Brief the plate - arrival procedure and aerodrome plate
Radios - check correct frequency set and standby frequency set
Instruments - QNH set, DI and compass aligned
Engine - mixture rich, T’s and P’s green, fuel pump if required
Fuel - check state, change tanks if required, update fuel log

Hangering procedures?

A

Scheduler must be contacted to see where aircraft needs to be parked.

Contact club frequency 131.2. Will be told either ‘pumps’ (Taxi to pumps and help next student refuel)
‘Park’ (taxi to a parking spot and park into wind)
‘Hanger’ (taxi to the hanger and put aircraft away)

What are the considerations for hangering? (5)

A
  • minimum 2 people, one to push the aircraft and the other to watch wingtips and tail
  • ensure aircraft are placed on the markers
  • check hanger doors are latched open
  • don’t leave tow hooks attached to unattended aircraft
  • take your time

Considerations for picketing (4)

park into wind

Place pickets in front of aircraft then push aircraft forward
Lock controls with seatbelt - consider wind direction

Rules for refuelling? (6)

A
  • No smoking or cellphone use near fuel pumps
  • No one inside the aircraft when refueling
  • Attach static discharge line
  • Gently tap the nozzle against the fuel cap prior to opening the cap to equalise any electrical potential
  • The nozzle needs to be supported and kept in contact with the filler neck
  • Do not tap the nozzle against the filler neck after refuelling
