Flight Flashcards
What is Newton’s First Law:
Every object in a state of motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
What is Newton’s second law
Acceleration is produced
when a force acts on a mass.
What is Bernoulli’s Principle:
As the speed of a fluid increases, the pressure decreases. Air can be thought of as a fluid.
Some living things that can fly
Birds,bats,insects
Why can’t people fly
people do not have the right physical proportions for flight.
Non living things that can fly
Helicopters,planes,rockets, hot air balloons
What is lift
Lift is an upward force. If the lift force is greater than the gravity force, the object will stay in the air.
What is thrust
Thrust - is the force that moves an airplane forward
What is Gravity
An invisible force which pulls objects
What is drag
Drag - is a force that is like salmon swimming upstream or wind pushing against you and works in the opposite direction than you are traveling.
What is weight
Weight is the measure of the force of gravity on an object.
What is mass
a measurement of how much matter is in an object.
How do helicopters fly
They have spinning blades helicopters blades are angled up just a bit so they spin pushing the air up which causes the helicopter to fly
How do airplanes fly
Airplanes achieve flight in much of the same way as living things do. There are three main factors that contribute to the flight of airplanes: thrust, angle of attack and the airfoil wing shape.
Newton’s 3 law is
for every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction
