Q

A student investigated how the acceleration of a trolley is affected by the force acting on the trolley.Describe a method the student could use.

A

1.gather materials
2.set the trolley on the track
3.apply different weights to create varying forces
4.measure the time it takes the trolley to travel a set distance for each force
5.calculate the acceleration
6.record the force and corresponding acceleration in a table
7.plot force vs acceleration to see the friendship

Q

What is Newton’s first law

A

If an object stays at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain at the same speed and direction unless acted upon by an external force.

Q

What is Newton’s third law of motion

A

When ever two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other

17
Q

Required practical.
Explain how to the wave speed of a wave using a ripple tank.

A

You will need a stop watch and a ruler
To measure the frequency you will need to measure the amount of waves passing through a point in ten seconds, then divide by ten
To find the wave length measure the distance between ten waves using the ripple tank snd then divide by ten. After all this you can find the wave speed by using thr equation wave speed=frequency x wavelength

18
Q

Required practical
How to calculate speed of waves on a string

A

Extra equipment needed: ruler,frequency generator

The frequency should be given in the frequency generator.
To find the wavelength yoy measure several loops with a metre ruler then divide by the number of loops.
Then find the wave speed by using thr equation wave speed=frequency x wave speed
