What is rembrandt lighting?

A

One side of the face is lit well from the main light source while the other side of the face uses the interaction of shadows and light. Creates the triangle or diamond shape of light underneath the eye

What is split lighting?

A

it splits the face exactly into equal halves with one side being in the light, and the other in shadow. Use for drama or masculinity

How do you achieve split lighting?

A

put the light source 90 degrees to the left or right of the subject, and possibly even slightly behind their head. The eye on the shadow side of the face does pick up light in the eye only. Rotate face for a bit more light to fall on cheek

How do you set up for rembrandt lighting?

A

Main light is 45degrees to subject and eye level or height. Reflector is placed lower and opposite side of subject. Eye on the shadow side of the face should have catchlight in it.
