Flash cards Physics
Transverse Pulse?
A pulse in which the displacement of the particles of the medium is perpendicular to the direction of the movement.
Amplitude?
Maximum disturbance of particles from its rest position.
Superposition?
Sum of the amplitude of 2 pulses that occupy the same space at the same time
Constructive Interference?
Occurs when the crest of 2 pulses meet on the same side of the rest position. Resulting in greater amplitude.
Destructive Interference?
Occurs when a crest and trough meet on opposite sides of the rest position.
Transverse Wave?
A wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate perpendicular to the direction of motion of the wave.
Uses and Disadvantage of Radio Waves?
Radio and TVs
Noise pollution
Crest
Highest point of wave.
Trough?
Lowest point of wave.
Wavelength?
Distance between 2 points in phase.
Points In phase?
2 points separated by a whole number of wavelengths.
Frequency?
Number of waves per second.
Period?
Time taken for 1 wave to pass a point.
Wave speed?
Distance traveled by a point on the wave per unit time.
Longitudinal Wave?
A wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of movement.
Compression?
A region of high pressure and particles are close together
Rarefaction?
A region of low pressure and particles are far apart.
Sound Wave?
Series of consecutive compressions and rarefactions.
SONAR?
Sound Navigation and Ranging
Photon?
Energy packets in EM waves that transfer energy to particles of matter.
Law of Conservation of Charge?
Net charge of an isolated system remains the constant during any physical process.
Law of Quantification of Charge?
Every charge consists of a integer multiples of electrons.
Use and Disadvantage of Microwaves?
Microwave ovens, communication satellites
Use of cell phone is addictive and affects productivity
Use and Disadvantage of Infared?
Keeping food warm, TV remote
Used by poachers for tracking
Use and Disadvantage of Visible Light?
Use and Disadvantage of UV?
Sterilisation, prolonged shelf life
Can cause damage to eyes, skin or cancer
Use and Disadvantage of
X-ray?
CT scans, medical images
Can cause damage to skin, eyes or cancer
Use and Disadvantage of Gamma rays?
Radiation for cancer , nuclear power
Released during nuclear reaction and can cause deaths
