Flash Cards 5
:)
What is sexual reproduction?
When Two Parents (male, female)
daughter cells are a mixture/combination of genes.
-1 parent to 4 daughter cell
What does sexual reproduction do?
Produces variety (variation) allows the organism to be better adapted to a changing environment and thus a greater survival advantage.
What is Hemophilia?
Slow or no blood clotting ; recessive allele
What is the male sexual Reproduction
Interphase cytokinesis
(99% life) 23 chromosomes
1 4
46 chromosomes 2nd cell division
Parent cell 4 daughter cells
1st cell division
What is the female Sexual Reproduction?
Interphase
1
1st cell division
46 —> doubled 96 chromosomes
Parent Cell
Cytokinesis
4
2nd cell division
23 chromosomes
4 daughter cells
What is cell division (mitosis)?
Cell division is mitosis
Interphase
1
1st cell division
46 ——> doubled 96 chromosomes
parent cell
Cytokinesis
2
1st cell division
46 chromosomes
2 daughter cell
What does cell division do?
Cell division glows (embryo, fetus, infancy, –> adult hood) and repair /maintenance of an organism.
What is asexual reproduction?
1 parent / 2 daughter cells
Parent/ daughter cells identical appearance (genes) Parent / daughter cell same number of chromosomes.
What is mutation?
Mutation is the change in the DNA code.
What does Good/ Beneficial do?
Helps an organism to better adapt to its environment.
What is neutral?
common ; neither helpful or harmful.
What is Bad/Harmful?
Cancer ; no fertilization, dead, embryo, dead fetus, dead newborn ; genetic disorders
What are the types of Mutations?
- Substitution: Remove a base pair then in its place add a new base pair.
- Deletion: Remove a base pair only
- Addition : Add a base pair
What are the causes of Mutation?
- Chemical ; nicotine, gasoline
- Radiation ; gamma rays
- Genetic ; triple negative breast cancer
- Fried Foods ; French fries, potato chips etc.
What does variation do?
Allows a species to best adapt to a rapidly changing environment there by increasing the chance of survival.
