Flammable And Combustible Liquids Flashcards
Two primary hazards with flammable and combustible liquids
Fire
Explosion
Aerosol
Material which is dispensed from its container as a mist spray or foam by propellant under pressure
Boiling point
The boiling point of a liquid at a pressure of 14.7 pounds per square inch
Fire area
Area of a building separated from remainder of building
Fire resistance of at least 1 hour
Flash point
Minimum temp at which a liquid gives off vapors
Sufficient concentration to form an ignitable mixture with air near surface
Combustible liquid
Any liquids having flash point at or above 100 degrees F
2classes
Class II Liquids
Combustible
Shall include those flash point at or above 100f and below 140f
Class III
(Combustible)
A
B
Flash point above 140
A- at or above 140 and below 200
B-at or above 200f
Flammable liquid
3 classes
IA
IB
IC
Any liquid having flash point below 100f
IA-flashpoint below 73f &a boiling point below 100
IB- flash point below 73f & boiling point at or above 100f
IC- flash point at or above 73f and boiling point below 100f
Portable tank
Closed container having liquid capacity over 60 us gallons not fixed installation
Safety can
Not more than 5gals capacity having a spring closing lid spout cover and design to safely relieve internal pressure
Vapor pressure
Pressure measured in pounds per square inch
LFL
UFL
Lower flammable liquids
Aka lower explosive limit
Upper flammable liquids
Aka upper explosive limit
