A

use a nichrome wire
clean wire by dipping it in concentrated HCl then heat in a bunsen flame
dip wire in solid and heat over blue bunsen flame
observe flame colour

explanation for occurance of flame

A

the heat causes electron to move to a higher energy level.
the electron is unstable at a higher energy level and so drops back down
as it drops back down from the higher to lower energy level, energy is emitted in the form of visible light energy with the wavelength of the observed light
