10
Q

Explain plucking

A

As a glacier moves there is friction. Tween the glacier and the ground beneath it. This friction causes the bottom of the glacier to melt. The meltwater makes its way into cracks in the rocks underneath the rocks

11
Q

Explain abrasion

A

As the glacier moves, the rock attached to it scratch and scrape the surface rock underneath and on the side of the valley. The scratch marks left behind on rocks are called striations. These marks tell us the direction the glacier moved

Q

What is a cirque

A

A cirque is a base shaped hollow in a mountain. It looks like an armchair. it has three steep sides and often contains a lake. A cirque was the birthplace of a glacier

13
Q

How are cirques formed

A

A cirque is formed when snow accumulates (builds up) in a hollow high up on a mountain. The snow is compressed to form ice

15
Q

How are arêtes formed

A

An Aries occur when two cirques form next to each other on a mountain. The ground between two cirques erodes backwards this leaves a narrow ridge called an artes between two cirques

16
Q

What is a prymindal peak

A

A prymindal peak is a steep sided peak between three or more cirques. It is formed when three or more cirques form around a mountain. Top, steep sided peak remains between them

17
Q

Landforms/ features of glacier deposition

A

Boulder, clay plains, Drumins, Erratics, moraines, Eskeds
