Fixed Appliances Flashcards
1
Q
Indications for fixed appliances?
A
- Bodily movement
- Rotations
- Multiple teeth movement simultaneously
- Active closure of extraction spaces due to hypodontia
- Intrusion and extrusion of teeth
2
Q
Components of Fixed appliances?
A
- Bands - rings encircling teeth usually molar teeth cemented with GIC
- Bonds - brackets are bonded onto teeth
- Brackets and bands have horizontal slot where arch wire is placed
- Auxillaries - elastomeric modules or wire ligatures secure arch wire into the slot
3
Q
How is the type of force applied determined using arch wire?
A
- Amount and type of force applied can be controlled by varying the cross-sectional diameter and form of the arch wire or material
- nickel titanium wire more flexible than stainless steel and has greater resistance to deformation - good for alignment of teeth
- stainless steel good for levelling curve of spee
- stainless steel rectangular wire also good for OJ reduction or correction of incisor relationship and space closure as you have 3D control with the help of springs and elastics
