Moving from place to place and the interconnections between places.

What is Diffusion?
How ideas are spread from its origin from one culture to another over time.
What is Globalization?
The spread of ideas on a global scale.
What is Region?
Areas of unique characteristics; ways of organizing people grographically.
What are the three types of regions?
Formal Region, Functional Region, and Perceptual Region
What is Human Environment Interaction?
People depend on, adapt to and change the environment.
What are the two types of Location?
Absolute and Relative.
What is a Map?
A two dimensional or flat-scale model of the Earth’s surface or a portion of it.
What is the purpose of a map
- Stores reference material
- Communicate geographic information.
What is a Globe?
A better model of the Earth than a map, nut a globe has disadvantages that a map doesn’t have.
What are the two types of maps?
General Reference Maps, Thematic Maps
What is the purpose of a General Reference Map?
Provides the reader general information about an area or place - Political & Physical Features
What is the purpose of a Thematic Map?
Provides a geographic pattern usually with symbols or colors.
What are the five types of Thematic Maps?
Choropleth Maps, Dot Density Map, Graduated Symbol Map, Cartogram Map, and Isoline Map.
What is a scale?
A comparison of distances on a map to distances on the Earth.
What is a Graphic Scale?
Scale Bar.
What is a Verbal Scale?
Written Statement.
What is a Fractional Scale?
Representative Fraction.
What kind of scale is this “One inch to five miles”?
Verbal Scale.

Fractional Scale.
