When does sawm take place?
Sawm takes place during the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar. The month is called Ramadan. It is the same month as when the ‘Night of Power’ happened.
One reason why Muslims fast
Fasting means to give up food and water. Muslims are challenged to fast as a way of developing mental discipline (mind over matter).
How long does sawm last for?
Sawm lasts for the entire month because Muslims believe it should be a challenge, and not happen in one day. It means religion should be at the centre of their life.
Another reason why Muslims do sawm
Sawm is a yearly ritual because people can make mistakes during the year. Sawm helps Muslims to redress & improve their lives.
