Five Feet Fall Apart Flashcards
I recently had a conversation with a friend about the movie Five Feet Apart. It was an insightful and dramatic film, but there’s one particular scene that stood out to me, and I’d like to share my thoughts on it.
The scene revolves around Stella, a girl suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF), who decides to stop her treatment. Instead, she chooses to fulfill a long-held desire—to see the lights in the distance with her boyfriend. It’s a cold, snowy day, and they set off on their journey. However, on the way, the hospital staff repeatedly tries to contact her. They have incredible news: they’ve found a donor, and she has the chance to receive a life-saving lung transplant.
What struck me about this scene is the deeper message it conveys. Often in life, we chase after something relentlessly, believing that achieving it will bring us happiness or fulfillment. But sometimes, when we finally decide to let go—when we stop running after it—it comes back to us unexpectedly.
This reminds me of how life works in general. We put in so much effort, struggle, and sometimes even despair over something we desire. Then, when we least expect it, when we’ve given up hope, life surprises us by giving us exactly what we’ve been longing for.
