FIRST SEM Flashcards
Characteristics that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the substance.
Physical properties
Characteristics that can be observed during a chemical reaction of chemical changes.
chemical properties
properties of matter that vary with the amount of substance
extensive properties
properties that does not depend on the amount of substance rather on the type of matter itself.
intensive properties
It has a fixed composition, and cannot be separated by physical means.
Pure substances
it is made up of only one atom
elements
it is made up of two or more atoms
compounds
composed of two or more pure substances, and cannot be separated by physical means
mixtures
it has a uniform composition. also called “solution”
homogenous
it has a non uniform composition
heterogenous
alterations in appearance
physical change
alterations in the chemical composition
chemical change
has definite shape and volume
solid
has definite volume but no definite shape
liquid
has no definite shape or volume
