Microbiology
The study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, archaea, fungi, and protozoa. Includes fundamental research on the biochemistry physiology, cell biology, ecology, evolution & clinical aspects of microorganisms, including the host response to the agents.
Microbes
An organism of microscopic size, which may exist in its single-cells form or as a colony of cells.
Pathogens
Microbes that cause disease. Over 2,000 different microbes cause disease. 10 Billion infections every year, are part of important causes of death worldwide.
Prions
Misfolded proteins, mad cow disease
Biogeochemical Cycles
The ways in which an element moves between its various living & non living forms & locations in the biosphere. Recycling of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, iron, & phosphorus.
