Formal list of Nursing Diagnostic Labels
describes health problems that can be addressed by independent nursing actions.Forms the body of knowledge that is unique to nursing.
Medical Diagnosis
Describes a disease, illness, or injury. More narrowly focused.
Nursing diagnosis
A statement of client health status that nurses can identify prevent, or treat independently.
Differences between Medical / Nursing diagnoses
- predictions cannot be made from medical diagnosis or pathology
- medical diagnosis can have a number of nursing diagnoses associated with it.
- Clients with the same medical diagnosis may have different nursing diagnoses.
