Q

If you have a slow climbing MTMA outbound positioned on the west side of S27 what considerations might there be?

A

If any LL offload/stack swaps are using the new FITBO1H, caution should be applied to make sure West keep their standing agreement level of FL180 by FITBO.

Q

What is the new P155 route level restricted to?

A

Traffic overflying the London FIR - FL370 minimum. If aircraft have flight planned FL370 but due to operational/turbulence reasons have to descend, S35 can still coordinate a lower level on this route with Daventry. EHAM and EDDL group inbounds are now able to flight plan this route.

Q

If a slow climbing MTMA outbound is transferred to TC COWLY by PC STAFA, and TC COWLY elect not to work the traffic, are there any considerations with regard to BB/NX/BE outbounds, TMA inbounds and FITBO1H arrivals?

A

No - if TC COWLY skip the traffic it will be presented clean to DTY South

Q

What major changes have been introduced regarding volcanic eruptions?

A

Phases have been changed - now:

Pre-Eruption Phase
Start of Eruption Phase
On-going Eruption & Recovery Phase

ASHTAM’s have been discontinued. SIGMET/NOTAM’s to disseminate pertinent information and a danger zone of 120nm from point of eruption can be put in to place in Pre-Eruption, and will be put into place at Start of Eruption.

Q

When conflicting aircraft are inbound from a non-iFACTS sector, will you get interactions against them?

A

No. When both are OUTCOMM then no interactions. When one is INCOMM and the other not then still no interactions but you will gain the ability to probe the interaction. When both INCOMM then interactions paint.

Q

With the removal of the BIG VOR, what effect will this have on GROVE1C arrivals?

A

Should be none as the routes are ERP’s, however if a pilot reports unable to fly the first two legs then radar vectors towards WELIN are to be used.

Q

What speed would you expect a GLF6 to fly in climb or descent?

A

Max 250kts due to an issue with the rudder. Expect slower speeds.

16
Q

On CLN what level restriction would apply to an EDLM inbound (Marl-Loemuhle)?

A

EDLM has been added to the German group so should auto-SLUT out at FL330.

17
Q

On CLN what level restriction would apply to ETOU and ETAD inbounds?

A

FL330. ETAR can be accepted at cruise levels.

18
Q

Do Maastricht need to be informed of slow climbing aircraft that have been coordinated through AMS?

A

No, unless Amsterdam do not approve the climb and elect to work the aircraft.

19
Q

If a LC/KB inbound on DTY requests a flight level between FL225-245, what are the procedures?

A

Ring TC and ask if aircraft is still acceptable FL220 at ODVOD. If not then alter the RFL to the new level FIRST and ring flight plans for a reroute onto the JACKO1H. Expect FL200 at ROGBI.

20
Q

If a LC/KB inbound on DTY specifically requests the JACKO1H or requests a level below FL225, what are the procedures?

A

Alter the RFL to the new level FIRST and ring flight plans for a reroute onto the JACKO1H. Expect FL200 at ROGBI.

21
Q

During a split, would you split the A & B bays?

A

It is recommended (but no longer mandatory), as it gives the incoming controller/planner the chance to ensure all the electronics have been targeted to the correct sector.

22
Q

When handing over, what is the first (new line) action you must take prior to commencing the handover

A

“Passes are to be exchanged in the OPM”

23
Q

When licensing/endorsements/replacement licenses are applied for, what should be taken into account regarding timeframes?

A

It’s the controllers responsibility to ensure all licensing/endorsements/replacement licenses are in place prior to the expiry of the previous. The 8-week grace period that previously existed has now been removed.

24
Q

Which UK airfields are excluded from the Ski-Flight level capping procedure for 2020 via VEULE?

A

EGSS is excluded from the daily restriction but still has the weekend restriction.

EGNT is excluded from both the daily and weekend restriction.

25
Q

Which Ski-Flight airfield destinations are part of the exclusion via VEULE?

A

LFLI, LSGG, LSGL, LSGS

26
Q

What is the max plannable level of Ski-Flights from the following destinations through VEULE? EGGW/EGKB/EGKK/EGLC/EGLL/EGMC/EGTO/EGQU/EGHI/EGHH & Farnborough Group - basically London TMA airfields.

A

FL310 Daily - 0500UTC - 2000UTC. These restrictions are available on the SIS.

27
Q

What is the max plannable level of Ski-Flights for airports not in the London TMA

A

FL350 Weekends - 0600UTC - 1800UTC. These restrictions are available on the SIS.

28
Q

When applying speed control what protection do you get from “on conversion”

A

Barely any. Depending on airline op procedures, aircraft type/weight/flying conditions, international differences and attitudes to holding conversion could occur at any level. Best to apply IAS “now” and closely monitor groundspeeds/IAS. Groundspeed is mandatory in TDB presentation window.

29
Q

What types of route clearances can you send to ATN equipped aircraft?

A

A mixture of ERP/VOR waypoints, though caution should be applied. In recent week it is noted that this transmission often sends (e.g) “CPT via KOPUL” so aircraft turn direct to CPT.

30
Q

Can FANS aircraft receive a mixture of ERP/VOR?

A

No. Only ERP

31
Q

When FANS timesout what is the phraseology?

A

“[Callsign] disregard CPDLC route message, disconnect from CPDLC and revert to voice”. You don’t have to pass the new clearance in the same sentence. Disconnecting from CPDLC is not a requirement if FANS failure and aircraft is transferring to TC (not-CPDLC equipped) or another ANSP (different logon).

32
Q

What are the (new) Silent Handover Conditions?

A

Transfer of control without radar handover, known as silent handover, may be effected provided that:

The aircraft is displaying a discrete SSR identity

The aircraft is within the anticipated displayed radar cover of the receiving sector/unit

There is satisfactory two-way speech communication available between the two sectors/units.
