What are the steps of Primary Survey ?
Responsive :
Airway - Check Airway
Breathing - check for effective breathing ( rate , depth)
Circulation - rapid body survey for injury
Unresponsive :
Airway - Open the airway; head-tilt, chin-lift
Breathing - Check breath for 5-9 breath ;
- Chest lift : do CPR : 30 Compression, check mouth, 2 ventilations
- no chest lift : airway is obstructed - CHOCKING
Circulation - rapid body survey for injury
What does the Secondary Survey consist of ?
History of casualty ( SAMPLE ) Symptoms, Allergies, Medications, Past/present medical condition, Last meal, Event leading up to injury
Asses the Vital Signs ( Level of consciousness, breathing, pulse, skin condition & temperature)
Head 2 Toe ( Head, neck, both collarbones, ( shoulders, arms, hands), Chest & under, Abdomen & under, Pelvis & buttocks, (Legs, ankle & feet)
First Aid for Injury / illness that are non life-threatening
What are the steps for Ongoing Casualty Care ?
Treat for shock
1. Reassure the casualty
2. Loosen tight clothing
3. Place in best position
4. Cover to preserve body heat
Monitor the casualty’s condition
1. check ABC often
2. Give nothing by mouth ( water on lips only)
3. Administer Oxygen
Record events & any changes in their conditions
Report on what happened & First Aid given
Do not leave casualty until handed to Medical Authorities
